A fine russet iron kabuto. 17th century

72 plates hoshi bachi, signed Munetsugu, probably Myōchin Munetsugu, iron mabesashi and fukigaeshi both with fukurin,katabami mon on the fukigaeshi, six-layer tehen no kanamono, shikoro with five layers of iron plates and kiritsuke kozane,agemaki no kan and agemaki with silk cord.

Since there were probably three generations of Munetsugu, we can only assume that this kabuto was made approximately in the first half of the Edo period. The kanbuto is in excellent, unrestored condition.

Of oval section the front of the brim turned upward and with a large medaillion in gold makie with two seal script characters in black at the front of the crown. Cushions and hat bands damaged.
The condition is contemporyry with little cracks to the lacquer coating and chips to the rim.

These stirrups have the typical shape, the upper part is openwork and has a pin buckle. Decorated in fine yellow metal wires on the front with a peony in a double circle, the background decorated with a continuous swastika pattern. An extremely well-preserved and detailed work.

A fine late Edo period ressei-type menpo. The ears and face are one plate, the nose and the lower part of the chin are separate. Attached is a three-layer iron and lacquer yodarekake with blue sugake odoshi. The iron has a beautiful brown patina and the face looks slim and noble.
