These two pairs of menuki are not considered “true” daisho, as they were not originally made as a set. The NTHK classifies the dai menuki as rain dragons belonging to the Shonai school and the sho dragons to the Waki-Goto school. Furthermore, the Waki-Goto pair appears older, as the NTHK dates them to the mid Edo period, while the dai menuki are attributed to the late Edo period.
However, since they are presented in a high-quality, custom-made box, and there is a possibility that they were once mounted together on a matching daisho, we will not separate them and will offer them as a beautiful set of daisho dragon menuki.
