Heianjo-zogan tsuba with ho-o (phoenix) motif and kiri-mon from the Momoyama period (16th century). An exceptionally well-crafted tsuba, preserved in the best possible condition over the centuries:
The iron of this tsuba exhibits a beautiful dark brown patina and excellent tsuchime. The brass inlay crosses the rim, and the fierce gaze of the phoenix is outstanding.
This tsuba was in the collection of the renowned tsuba and tosogu collector Kokubo Kenichi and was published in one of his collection catalogs.
